STADT IN SICHT
CITY IN VIEW is Henrik Galeen’s answer to Lupu Pick’s box office hit SCHERBEN (SHATTERED, 1921). Galeen moves the action from a railroad track checker’s home to a barge, on which an old skipper, his young wife, and his assistant toil day after day until one day a mysterious stranger appears. The dancer, wanted for murder, tries to beguile the wife and turns the ship into a den of iniquity one night. Especially the sophisticated set design, the numerous water shots and the tinting, which puts the scenes in a coherent light corresponding with day and night, remain in the viewer’s memory.
AFTER THE VERDICT tells the story of a murder case that shocks London’s upper class and turns the life of a famous tennis player upside down when her fiancé becomes a suspect. As part of the Viennale, the rarely shown, last known surviving 35mm copy of the English version will be screened, with an audio track consisting of sounds and music. (fw)
