A kind of installment to \"Workers, Peasants\", this film deals with workers and peasants who find themselves confronted with the laws of politics and economy. As the Straubs already suggested in \"Not Reconciled\", repression and so-called economic recovery is the price to pay in order to put an end to war. However, economic recovery is simply to return to the old order of fortune, possession and exploitation. It almost seems as if the trees, streams, hills and the chirping birds were the people's only allies. If there were such a thing as the opposite of \"expropriation\", this film would do just that - in both a tremendously rough and gentle way, sowing the grapes of wrath and tenderness.
