INTRODUCTION TO THE ENEMY

Tom Hayden, myself and our nine-month-old son Troy arrived April 1st in Hanoi. It was my second visit and Tom's fourth, but it would be the longest stay for either of us. It was prime time for an extended visit, the country was once again rebuilding in the wake of war, and the south was facing the prospect of an interminable «new war» which had begun almost simultaneously with the much-heralded cease-fire. So we left Troy in good hands in Hanoi and proceeded on a two week-journey south with director/cinematographer Haskell Wexler, a cameraman and a sound man from the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. The film is currently being edited and is due to be finished in the fall. (Jane Fonda, «A Vietnam Journal: Birth of a Nation», 1974)

In the end credits the film is credited to the following persons: Christine Burrill, Bill Yahraus, Jane Fonda, Thomas Hayden, Haskell Wexler. The only obtained 16mm copy was transferred on HD on the initiative of Haskell Wexler.
