In December 1998, the jazz musicians Sam Rivers (saxophon and flute) and Tony Hymas (piano) met for a four-day session in a studio in Florida. Pascale Ferran joined this legendary session with the camera and reveals the creative process.
Tony Hymas: «All right, it was the tempo more than anything ... I didn't know what the tempo was, it keeps moving around, so if we keep the tempo straight ... It has to be very precise or ... Here we just go free, you know, one of the two, you know. We can't be in between for me, I mean, it upsets my thing, my equilibrium ... Do you want to hear each chord or the beginning of the bar?» - Sam Rivers: «No, no, I just want to make sure that, I mean, we are in the same place at all times. That's what I'm trying to say.» - «Obviously I try to listen ...» - «We have to be not too fluid, Tony.» - «Yeah, but, you know, I also listen to you as well while you listen to me.»
