VIENNA FILM AWARD

The Vienna Film Award is awarded by a five-person national jury of representatives from various film sectors. This honor was presented for the first time in 1991.

The winner is selected from Austrian feature-length films and documentaries that have premiered or have been publicly screened since the last Viennale. The Viennale would like to take this opportunity to thank the companies BLAUTÖNE and viennaFX, who genrously contribute to the Vienna Film Award, as well as the Culture Department of the City of Vienna, which donates a cash prize.
On the initiative of the Viennale, since 2009 the Vienna Film Award is awarded separately in both the “Feature Film” and “Documentary” categories, each of which consists of prize money and contributions in kind worth EUR 11,000. The winners have been awarded on Nov 2, 2017 at Gartenbaukino.

The members of FIPRESCI come from around the world and juries comprised of its members meet at numerous film festivals to award the Prize of International Film Critics. Usually - as at the Viennale as well - the winners are chosen from among the debut works of young directors.
