Überlagertes 16mm-Filmmaterial mit Fehlbelichtungen, 3D-Modelle der Bergketten in Kaschmir, Videoschnipsel von Spontanaufständen muslimischer Frauen oder auch WhatsApp-Diskussionen zwischen dem Regisseur und seinem Vater: Found Footage als politisch aufgeladene Paria-Kunst aus der Diaspora und zugleich taktile Verbeugung vor den anhaltenden Kämpfen der vermeintlich Unberührbaren. The poem by Kashmiri-American poet Agha Shahid Ali starts as follows: “This letter will not reach you.” The film explores the relationship between poetry and political struggle. What are the linkages between? How do they shape identity? And how does identity shape them in turn? From the vantage point of the year he was born, Sanzgiri explores these questions by collecting the history that materializes from events and their mediations. The different layers of analog and digital turn into ways of fighting the ungraspability of memory, while the poem continues: This letter, insh’Allah, will reach you. (Lucía Salas)
