Jhon Montoya

In  “with the films“ we ask our guests about cinema and their life with it. This time it's Colombian musician Jhon Montoya who has released his highly acclaimed album "Otun" this year, on which he blends the sounds of his homeland - from indigenous songs to salsa and cumbia - with a good portion of electronics. We are very excited he is going to perform at our opening party.

What is the last film you saw?

“Ad Astra“ and I was disappointed, unfortunately the most beautiful things in the film were the opening minutes…

What is the last great film you saw?

“Free Solo“. I know it's a documentary but it left me breathless.

Are there any films, considered classics, that you don't like?

Not really, but I have to say that I don't like musicals.

What films would people be surprised to learn that you love?

The sagas of Jean-Claude Van Damme. I grew up with him and Jackie Chan!

Are there any film composers you admire?

I am studying music for films at the conservatory. In studying history I discover incredible characters. Thinking about contemporary composers whose work I like…I love everyone, but especially Jóhann Jóhannsson, I really regret his death.

Is there a movie you feel too early in your life?

“Magnolia“, an incredible intrigue.

What do you look for in a movie?

I want to be surprised, I want to be deceived…
