Born in 1973 in Vienna. Philipp Hochmair studied from 1993 to 1997 acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna with Klaus Maria Brandauer and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d'Art Dramatique in Paris. He performed at the Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, Staatstheater Hannover, Volksbühne Berlin and Schauspielhaus Zurich. From 2003 to 2009 he was member of the Burgtheater in Vienna, since 2009 he is a member of the ensemble at Hamburg's Thalia Theater. He has worked with directors like Friederike Heller, Nicolas Stemann, Stefan Kimmig, René Pollesch and Peter Zadek. He played many lead roles such as Leonce, Werther, Hamlet, Don Carlos, Orestes, Torquato Tasso, and has participated in numerous premieres by Peter Handke and Elfriede Jelinek. Though mainly connected to the theater, Hochmair played from the beginning of his career in various film and television roles,e.g. in Heinrich Breloer DIE MANNS – EIN JAHRHUNDERTROMAN (2000).
