Born 1962 in New York. Studied at New York University. Writes plays and novels, before staging his multi-award-winning debut film with YOU CAN COUNT ON ME (2000, Viennale '00). Writes the screenplay for Martin Scorsese's GANGS OF NEW YORK in 2002. After years of the production contest for the final version, his second directorial work MARGARET (2011, Viennale '12) runs in the cinema. The Viennale is dedicating a tribute to Kenneth Lonergan this year.
