RADFAHRER

Being classified as subversive, GDR photographer Harald Hauswald was for many years observed by the East German State Security Service Stasi under the codename “Radfahrer” (“Cyclist”). Marc Thümmler’s film transfers this oppositional relationship to the realm of cinematic montage and mirrors it in design principles by directly confronting Hauswald’s pictures with the reports written by his observers. In doing so, ]]>Radfahrer]]> depicts the background as well the circumstances and consequences of the photographer’s work in East Berlin of the 80’s.
