The Earth is a Sinful Song is set in the remote village of Siskonranta in Lapland. Sex, alcohol and religious fear shape the life of its inhabitants. Martta, a plump, earthy, fun-loving 19-year-old, falls in love with a Lapp reindeer herdsman. One long winter night she finds out she is pregnant. Her father Juhani, an alcoholic, threatens to kill the herdsman. To protect her lover, Martta opts for a life of longing and proud seclusion.
