John Akomfrahs award-winning filmic essay about racial riots in the 1980s analyzes the historic, social and political backgrounds of the altercations. The film, shot in Handsworth (Birmingham), uses additional archive material from different historical eras. The latest events in Oldham and Bradford show that also still today there are the same conflicts on the streets of British cities and the topics the film took up in the year of 1985 have not lost any of their meaning and urgency.
