During his honeymoon, a young French industrialist meets an enigmatic beauty who asks for his protection from her companion. He leaves his wife and follows the stranger by car. The situation comes to a head in Cannes.
“In the role of Dr. Karoff, Kortner shows off urbane superiority ranging from callous to jovial depending on his counterpart. But behind the societal façade, the actor uncovers Karoff ’s growing anxiety: the fear of being haunted by the past, i.e. the murder he committed; the fear that his companion and accomplice would elude him despite her involvement. His mask falls in brief moments, when Kortner seamlessly, almost unnoticeably, changes from one level to the other.” (Martin Girod)

Piano accompaniment by Florian Reithner.
