Alpentragödie is the film adaptation of the 1909 novel by the same name by German writer Richard Voss, which takes place in the Swiss Engadin valley. Positive reviews underlined the production of the Austrian film under most difficult technical conditions, and particularly Emil Leyde’s art of direction: for example, “the precision of the script as far as the timeliness of the avalanche in the final act was concerned – a precision said to have been lacking during the last war”.
