BABOOSKA

In several episodes, Babooska tells the story of the daily struggle of modern nomads in Italy. In the course of a year, it follows the young artiste Babooska, who runs a traveling circus with her family, on her odyssey through remote villages: it is a glimpse behind the scenes of a microcosm at the margins of society, beyond common clichés, without commentary and interviews.
The filmmakers Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel take their time for their projects. In Babooska they examined a life in a caravan for a year, shared the bright and dark moments of a predominantly female circus family on its tour through Northern Italy. The idea of the freedom of traveling loses its romantic touch in a pleasant way, becomes what it really is: organization and constant planning, as to where Babooskas sister should go to school for example, or what the income should be invested in. Once more, Covi and Frimmel prove themselves as film poets of daily life on the verge of standardized ways of living.
