If you go to the Gartenbaukino at 6 p.m. during the Viennale this year, chances are high that you will see a film from Austria (even though it won’t be one by director Ulrich Seidl…). Also so on October 31, when another film by director team Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmer will be screened. Both are Viennale regulars, but DER GLANZ DES TAGES, this year’s submission, is a special highlight and one of the best Austrian movies of 2012.

Our neighbors

Hungary and Austria share a long history, once both countries were more than mere neighbors. This makes it even harder to see what’s been happening to an ethnic minority in the last few years. Bence Fliegauf follows the live of one particular family who has to live with the everyday fear of being attacked in the same way, as it has already happened to five other families, who have been brutally murdered.
